From Jules Verne's 80 days

The technological innovations of the 19th century had opened the possibility of rapid circumnavigation and the prospect fascinated Jules Verne the author of "Around the world in 80 days".

Facebook and all the new instantaneous communication technologies shifted the notion of mobility and changed the way we perceive and deal with speed and time and thus Saussure's formula of representation is not valid anymore, teletechnological production is a "signifier" without a "signified".
